Ewolucja geologiczna Polski Południowo-Zachodniej w interpretacji tektoniki płyt

Stefan Cwojdziński

Abstract
Przedstawiono próbę interpretacji ewolucji geologicznej obszaru Europy Środkowej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Polski Południowo-Zachodniej z punktu widzenia tektoniczno-płytowej interpretacji Waryscydów i Alpidów Europy. Stwierdzono, iż zjawiska tektogeniczno-magmowe w obrębie Masywu Czeskiego prawdopodobnie nawiązują do procesów geologicznych odbywających się w strefie Karpat Zachodnich, a w mniejszym stopniu do ewolucji Alp Wschodnich.
Analiza ewolucji Waryscydów i Alpidów Europy z punktu widzenia tektoniki płyt napotyka znaczne trudności. Szczególnie niepewne jest rekonstruowanie przebiegu i kierunków stref hipotetycznej subdukcji płyt oceanicznych prowadzącej do zamykania paleooceanów i w efekcie do zjawisk orogenicznych. Wiele natomiast zjawisk geologicznych wskazuje na dominującą rolę tzw. diapirów płaszcza wywołujących na powierzchni ziemi anomalie termiczne i zróżnicowane ruchy pionowe w warunkach tensji regionalnej.

Geologic evolution of South-Western Poland interpreted in terms of plate tectonics

Abstract
An attempt is made to explain geologic evolution of Central Europe and in particular Southwestern Poland in terms of plate tectonics interpretation of European Hercynides and Alpides. Successive developmental phases of the Hercynian geosyncline and orogene were distinguished taking into account the tectogenic role of Precambrian microcontinents considered as fragments of epi-Baikalian platform. Geologic evolution of Alpine geosyncline in Europe and especially tectogenic processes within it were discussed. Tentative evaluation of influence of geological processes in the geosyncline and newly forming orogene exerted upon the platform foreland of Central Europe was attempted. Pointed out was tight temporal correlation between endogenic processes (foldings and metamorphism) in geosyncline with taphrogenesis and volcanism in platform zones. Tectogenic-magmatic processes in the Bohemian Massif seem to refer to geological processes occurring in Western Carpathian Mts and to less extent to evolution of Eastern Alps. Evolution of European Hercynides and Alpides is difficult to be analysed in terms plate tectonics. Particularly uncertain are reconstructions of zones of hypothetic subduction of oceanic plates resulting in the closings of paleo-oceans and orogenic phenomena. However, numerous geological phenomena indicate the dominant role of the so-called mantle diapirism giving rise to thermal anomalies at the earth's surface and differential vertical movements under conditions of regional tension.

Fluvial processes on the wet Miszkowice Fan. Part I. Erosion and erosional landforms

Andrzej Karol Teisseyre

Abstract
The Miszkowice Fan is a small wet alluvial fan located at the mouth of the River Złotna valley, Western Sudetes. The Złotna is a small mountain stream (Qmean 0.45 m3 s-1) characterized by a gravelly bed, steep slope, and large fluctuations in discharge (0.05-40 m3 s-1 in the last eight years). The lowest stretch of the Złotna running through the Miszkowice Fan was investigated since 1971. Field observations and measurements of the mode and rate of fluvial erosion were made systematically in two years (1977-1978). At that time three floods have been noted, namely in May (Q ca. 12-15 m3 s-1), and August 1977 (Q ca. 35-40 m3 s-1) and in February/March 1978 (Q ca. 9-11 m3 s-1).
Field investigations have demonstrated that the location within the channel of zones of strong lateral and downward erosion depends on the position of the streamtube of maximum velocity, which changes with the discharge and Froude number.
The higher the Froude number the better the conformability between theoretical and observed positions of the streamtube of maximum velocity. With high Froude numbers the stream-tube of maximum velocity lies characteristically at the inner bank in the entrance to the bends and approaches the outer cut bank at the bend axis or some point downchannel from it. The structure of turbulence during a flood discharge is very complex and variable. Nevertheless it has been found that the greatest rate of erosion is commonly attributable to stationary, horizontal, spiral vortexes. Their structure may be recorded both in bank morphology and bed configuration.
The distribution within the channel of zones of erosion and deposition depends on the water and sediment discharge and the condition of bed material. With mean discharge and stable gravelly bed erosion takes place along riffle slopes as well as in upper parts of pools that follow them (backward erosion on riffles). At the same time deposition frequently occurs within middle and lower portions of the pools (backward deposition in pools). During a flood discharge and live-bed conditions deposition takes place on the riffles (vertical and downchannel accretion), while erosion is operating within middle and lower portions of the pools (downward and lateral erosion). The best explanation of the observed differentiation in location of erosion and deposition zones is the phenomenon of velocity reversal (Keller 1971, 1977). During mean stage the flow undergoes contraction over the riffle slopes (high velocity) and expands in the pools (low velocity), while in flood it expands over the riffles (low velocity) and becomes contracted in bends or straight pools (high velocity). During a flood discharge riffles and pools may also develop within unstable straight reaches. These may be genetically connected with either symmetrical or asymmetrical erosion. Successive pools are generally 5-8 channel widths apart.
Field measurements have also demonstrated that both a low discharge of megascopically clear water and a strongly overloaded one may result in erosion of alluvial channels. With a low discharge erosion takes place along the actual wetted perimeter provided that flow velocity exceeds that necessary to transport fine sand. An overloaded discharge, on the other hand, results in vertical accretion and a rise in elevation of the channel bed. It has been also noted that strong lateral erosion of alluvial channel banks may be brought about by such flows and that the erosion is apparently simultaneous with the deposition. Under conditions of stable gravelly bed the depth of scour is related to the grain size of the bed material, while with a live-bed it is controlled mostly by the intensity of turbulence and the transporting ability of the stream. Low floods, carrying low amounts of bed load, may produce deep scours and relatively small modifications of bank configuration rendered by both lateral erosion and deposition of coarse bed material. High floods, on the other hand, lead to substantial changes in bank morphology attributable to either lateral erosion and/or lateral accretion. During high floods strong downward erosion occurs rather locally and there is a general tendency for coarse bed-load material to accumulate in some reaches of lower gradient and, particularly, in channels crossing alluvial fans. Thus deposition within alluvial channels is commonly connected with high flow velocities and erosion with low flow velocities. During the August 1977 flood gravelly channel plugs have developed on a number of Sudetic alluvial fans. These are typical especially of central-fan segments, downfan from the points of intersection. Thus the gravelly plugs occur characteristically on those segments of the fans which are characterized by the steepest longitudinal and transverse slopes.
There is increasing evidence that the following cycle of channel patterns is characteristic of the wet Sudetic fans under the present-day climatic conditions and the activity of man: plugging of an incised channel during a high flood → unstable braided pattern → straight or low-sinuosity incised channel originated from gully erosion → incised meandering stream → incised meander belt. The occurrence of meandering channels on the Sudetic fans is perhaps conditioned by climate from the one hand and the presence of thick alluvial loams covering fan gravels from the other. The whole cycle may last from a dozen or so till several tens of years.
Alluvial fans, being places of deposition of the coarsest bed load available, control to a large degree the character and amount of load carried by mountain streams. Passing through the Miszkowice Fan the Złotna leaves behind up to 85% its bed-load and changes in character from a bed-load to a mixed-load stream. This is well manifested by the thickness and composition of alluvial loams, which are much thicker in the fanbase area as well as below the confluence of the Złotna and the Bóbr. The most regular meandering patterns not uncommonly coincide with those places.
Meandering channels of pebbly mountain streams may exist under relatively a wide range of slope and water and sediment discharge. However, if a flood discharge is deficient in bed-load a meandering reach tends to degenerate for meander bends become too wide (erosion at the outer bank exceeds deposition at the inner bank). By the time channel sinuosity diminishes and there may occur a tendency to downward erosion. If a flood discharge is strongly overloaded the meandering channel becomes unstable and a complex meandering-braided or braided pattern may originate. Straight channels may be stable in the mountains provided that they attain in flood a normal slope and depth (uniform water and sediment discharge under conditions of quasi-steady flow) and that channel capacity is large enough to keep an undisturbed movement of all the bed material supplied to the reach.

Procesy fluwialne na „mokrym” stożku Miszkowic. Część I. Erozja i formy erozyjne

Abstract

Abstract
Zbadano 420-metrowy odcinek profilu czerwonego spągowca w Iwinach.

Rotliegendes deposits in the north-eastern North-Sudetic Trough (Sudetes Mts): their depositional environment and possible stratigraphic implications

Abstract
This study is based on new subsurfacial data from the vicinity of Iwiny. A considerably thick segment (420 m) of the Rotliegendes vertical profile is described and sedimentologically interpreted. Lower portion of this section comprises primarily red fine sandstones interspersed with various thicknesses of red siltstones, often containing small lenticles and veins of gypsum; these deposits are interpreted as representing ephemeral playa/lake environment, with a continued moderate contribution from ephemeral-stream sedimentation. Upper portion of the section (that approximating 150 m below the Zechstein base) is composed mostly of red sandstones, pebbly sandstones and pebble conglomerates which are inferred to represent fluvial braided-stream environment. In the latter part of the section carbonates are locally present, being developed as concretionary lenticular-nodular forms and also contributing to rock cement; these are interpreted as caliche-type deposits, the formation of which was most probably controlled here by climatic factor, host-rock mineral composition, and some physical-chemical agencies (hydrothermal solutions and gases) associated with a post-volcanic stage of the Early Permian regional volcanicity. Based on environmental/stratigraphic comparisons to some adjacent Permian basins of Central Europe, the lower part of the studied section is deduced to represent latest Autunian, while the upper part is thought to be Saxonian in age. Thin white clasitcs present at the section top belong, partly at least, to the Zechstein.

Trzy nowe stanowiska flory z interglacjału eemskiego na Dolnym Śląsku

Teresa Kuszell

Abstract
Praca obejmuje wyniki badań palinologicznych i szczątków makroskopowych osadów trzech profilów z Dolnego Śląska: Jaworzyny Śląskiej, Wołowa i Raków koło Żmigrodu. Analiza paleobotaniczna profilów z tych stanowisk pozwoliła ustalić obraz ówczesnych zbiorowisk roślinnych i odtworzyć zmiany w składzie roślinności zbiornika sedymentacyjnego i otaczających go terenów. Przedstawiona sukcesja roślinna w strefie granicznej interglacjału eemskiego i zlodowacenia Vistulian w Wołowie wykazuje podobieństwo do zmian roślinności obserwowanych w profilu z Imbramowic, a także do innych stanowisk z terenu Polski. Wystąpiły także pewne różnice wypływające z odmiennego położenia stanowisk i różnego charakteru zbiorników sedymentacyjnych.

Three new localities of Eemian flora in Lower Silesia

Abstract
This paper deals with the results of palynologic investigations and studies of macroscopic remnants found in sedimentary rocks of three profiles from the Lower Silesia (Jaworzyna Śląska, Wołów, and Raki near Żmigród). Paleobotanic analysis allowed to reconstruct plant communities and their changes both in the sedimentary basin and surrounding terrains. The profiles of Jaworzyna Śląska and Wołów display features diagnostic of the Eemian interglacial. They are characterized by the optimum phase with dominating Corylus and marked phases of Carpinus-Tilia and Abies-Picea forests. On the basis of profile I-72 of Wołów, the picture of vegetation in the early Vistulian glacial was presented. Three climatic oscillations were distinguished: stadial I- Wl, interstadial W2 corresponding to the Amersfoort interstadial, and stadial W3. The recognised plant succession at the Eemian/ /Vistulian turn displays resemblance to that of Imbramowice profile and others localities in Poland. Certain differences are due to various situations of the localities and various characters of sedimentary basins.

Zjawiska metasomatozy w cechsztyńskich złożach rud miedzi Dolnego Śląska

Jerzy Niśkiewicz

Abstract

Metasomatic phenomena in the Zechstein copper ore deposits of Lower Silesia

Abstract
Detailed geologic-mineraiogic investigations were carried out in 43 profiles of the main economic ore mineralization of Zechstein copper ore deposits, Lower Silesia. 219 polished sections and 254 thin sections were made from selected ore samples. They were studied beneath the microscope, paying special attention to structure and texture of the ore. The investigations revealed major role of metasomatic processes (carbonatization, chalcopyritization, bornitization, and chalcosinization) in origin of the discussed deposits. The processes acted during diagenesis of Lower Zechstein sediments. The main stage of carbonatization took place before ore metasomatism. Carbonatization affected not only carbonate and carbonate-clay-organic sediments of the Lower Zechstein but also sandstones occurring below them (their top sections). This effected recrystallization of carbonate substance and partial replacement of quartz and silica (cement in sandstones). The carbonatization facilitated ore metasomatic processes (particularly in sandstones) that were accomplished after a reduction barrier had been developed. The ore production in sediments was controlled by amount of H2S - concentration of ions S2 - in the barrier and by free enthalpy of sulphide creation (∆G) because of deficit of the ions. Metals Cu, Pb, Zn, and others were brought into barrier zone by descending water. The studied deposits belong to the type of epigenetic deposit in hypergenic zone, or more strictly speaking they represent late-diagenetic metathetic deposits.

Model akumulacji caliche w kontynentalnych osadach permu południowo-zachodniej części niecki śródsudeckiej

Wojciech Śliwiński

Abstract
Do akumulacji autogenicznego węglanu wapnia dochodzi w warunkach klimatu gorącego i niedostatecznej wilgotności. Procesowi wzbogacania w węglan towarzyszy wypieranie minerałów krzemianowych i kwarcu. Praca zawiera ponadto próbę wyjaśnienia pewnych typów przemian diagenetycznych, tj. neomorfizmów - agradacyjnego i degradacyjnego, na przykładzie horyzontu caliche.

A model for caliche formation in the continental Permian deposits of southwestern Intra-Sudetic Basin, southwestern Poland

Abstract
A number of caliche horizons (0.5-4 m thick) in the conglomeratic Permian red-bed sequence is described. The individual caliche horizons are typified by a vertical variability in their features, among them being an upward increase in carbonate content and a changing mode of their structural/ textural attributes. The calichification process in sediment was accompanied by the diminution of detrital silicates and quartz and also by rock silicification. The caliche horizons appear useful for studies of aggradational/ degradational neomorphism phenomena within the carbonate cement. The specified model of caliche development considers a number of various controlling agencies, among which the most important factors are: the climatic circumstances, the source for carbonates, and the lifetime of calichification processes.

Analiza strukturalna fałdu Bzowca (metamorfik Śnieżnika - Sudety)

Jerzy Don & Roman Gotowała

Abstract
W etapie D4 powstały liczne fałdy załomowe o charakterze sprzężonym, rozrywające wzdłuż stromych powierzchni równoleżnikowych i w przybliżeniu południkowych mezo- i makrofałdy etapów wcześniejszych.

Structural analysis of the Bzowiec fold (Śnieżnik metamorphic unit, Sudetes)

Abstract
The paper presents the results of mapping and mesostructural investigations of the Bzowiec macrofold between the villages of Trzebieszowice, Skrzynka and Orłowiec. The fold is one of few yet identified tectonic units of this type in the Śnieżnik region. Leptite gneisses concordantly set in mica schists of the supracrustal Stronie series are involved in these folds. Fold limbs are inclined southeastwards and its axial plane dips 75° to NW. The fold axis as well as accompanying mesofolds plunge shallowly to NE. The discussed fold has amplitude exceeding 2 km. In the investigated region four generations of mesostructures have been recognized (D1 to D4). The second generation structures are dominating. Mesofolds of this generation deform penetrative S1 foliation and are consistent with the mapped Bzowiec fold. Meso- and macrostructures of D3 set are very faint in this region, though they are intensely developed in the adjacent region of Krowiarki. D4 generation is represented by conjugate kink folds. The conjugate kink planes run meridionally and along parallels. The structures of all the mentioned sets are cross-cut by kakirite zones which preceded the emplacement of the Kłodzko-Złoty Stok granitoids (280-300 m.y.).
